Students can obtain training in neuroscience through the graduate programs of several participating departments: Biology, Biomedical Sciences, Chemistry, Entomology, and Psychology. Each of these departments has a Ph.D. degree program and some have M.S. degree programs. Courses in neuroscience are offered by the Department of Neuroscience and in conjunction with the other departments.

Students undertaking the interdepartmental emphasis in Neuroscience are expected to have had

1. An upper-division course in neurobiology, neuroscience, or physiological psychology

2. General and organic chemistry

3. Courses required for admission to a degree-granting department

Students undertaking the Neuroscience emphasis must complete the following requirements:

1. A minimum of 6 units (1 unit per quarter) in NRSC 287 (Colloquium in Neuroscience) cross listed with Biology, Biochemistry, Biomedical Sciences, Chemistry, Entomology, and PSYC 287

2. Four (4) courses from the following, with no more than one undergraduate course: BCH 241/CHEM 241; BMSC 220; NRSC 116, NRSC 120; NRSC 200A-NRSC 200B-NRSC 200C
