JOURNALISM MINOR
The Minor in Journalism program is not currently accepting new students. Please contact the Creative Writing Department for current information on the status of the program.
Christopher Buckley, M.F.A., Chair
Committee in Charge
The Journalism minor offers the student a basic understanding of the principles which underlie good communication and an examination of the broad areas of knowledge which journalists need to accurately perceive and interpret major events of the day. Students are encouraged to suggest alternative electives which relate to specialized areas of journalism such as science writing, minority affairs reporting, education writing and business writing which are not already reflected in their majors. Students are also encouraged to explore opportunities for special studies and internships in various areas of journalism. A senior thesis provides experience in undertaking a major journalistic project. Note: Students should check with the Creative Writing Department on the current status of the Journalism Minor. A minor is a set of courses focused on a single discipline or an interdisciplinary thematic area. There can be no substitution for the courses listed as constituting a minor without approval of the governing department or committee. There is no limit on the number of minors a student can declare. Students must declare the minor(s) before their final degree check before graduation, by completing a petition with the College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences Student Affairs Office, the College of Natural and Agricultural Sciences Student Affairs Office, or the College of Engineering Student Affairs Office, depending on their major. Prior approval by the department or committee offering the minor is required. The minor is noted on the transcript at the time the degree is conferred. See Minors under the College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences in the Undergraduate Studies section of this catalog for additional information on minors.
